The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday granted conditional anticipatory bail to Altamas Khan, an accused in the September 2025 violence and protests in Bareilly.

The order was issued by a single bench of Justice Ashutosh Srivastava.

The violence occurred in Bareilly on September 26, 2025. Following the violence, an FIR was registered in the Kotwali police station area against 25 named and approximately 1,700 unidentified individuals.

The FIR alleged that co-accused Maulana Tauqeer Raza incited Altamas Khan and others to stage a violent protest against the government, which led to stone pelting, sloganeering, and damage to public property.

A case was registered against the petitioner at the Kotwali police station under the BNS Act and several other serious sections.

The petitioner’s lawyer told the court that Altamas had no active role in the incident and that he had been falsely implicated.

The petitioner has a criminal history as he is involved in four cases.

The court granted Altamas Khan protection from arrest for 30 days from the date of the order. He has also been directed to appear before the relevant court or investigating officer.
