Amid speculation that differences were growing between Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and the party, a key meeting took place at Parliament premises on Thursday.

Appearing from the two-hour-long meeting with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi, Thiruvananthapuram MP Tharoor projected a united face and said, he and the party leadership were on the same page.

“I had a discussion with my two party leaders, the Leader of the Opposition and the Congress president. We had a very good, constructive, and positive discussion. All is good, and we are moving together on the same page. What more can I say?” Tharoor said in response to questions from the media outside the Lok Sabha complex.

The remarks sought to put to rest speculation that the Kerala MP had differences with a section of the party leadership.

Asked whether he would campaign for the party in the upcoming state elections, especially in his home state of Kerala, Tharoor nodded in the affirmative.

“I have always campaigned for the party, where have I not campaigned?” he told reporters.

When a reporter asked if the discussion also focused on him being made the CM face of the party in Kerala, the former union minister responded: “No, that was never discussed. I am not interested in being a candidate for anything. At the moment, I am already an MP, and I have the trust of my voters from Thiruvananthapuram. I have to look after their interests in Parliament, that is my job.”

He later posted on X about the meeting and wrote:

The closed-door meeting with the senior Congress leadership came amid continuing speculation around Tharoor’s unhappiness with the party’s functioning.

The meeting started around 11.15 am when Tharoor walked into Kharge’s chamber, with Rahul Gandhi joining soon after.

Tharoor exited Kharge’s room around 1.15 pm, appearing visibly relaxed.
