Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav Friday criticised the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to cite budget constraints as a reason for not hiring more teachers.
Taking to his WhatsApp channel, Yadav argued that the issue is not a lack of funds, but rather a flawed approach to prioritising education. “The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh views everything, including education, through a business lens,” the SP chief said, asserting: “If the government can find funds for self-promotion, it should prioritise education and allocate sufficient resources for it.”
He said that though the ideal teacher-student ratio is considered to be 1:20, the current ratio in Uttar Pradesh is far from ideal, leading to concerns about the quality of education.
Demanding that the government prioritise education and allocate sufficient funds to improve the teacher-student ratio, Yadav said the situation has arisen due to the government’s misplaced priorities.
“The government is more interested in spending on self-promotion and publicity rather than on essential services like education,” he said, claiming that this has led to a shortage of teachers and inadequate infrastructure in schools, affecting the quality of education in the state.
