Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav Tuesday strongly criticised the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, alleging that the process is targeting specific communities. He has demanded that the judiciary take immediate cognisance of the matter and take action against those responsible.
Akhilesh Yadav stated that the SIR exercise is being used to unfairly target certain castes and religions, which is unconstitutional.
“Whoever is acting illegally should face action, because illegal is illegal. Why are people from specific castes or religions being targeted?” he questioned in a post on his WhatsApp channel.
The SP chief has announced that his party will approach the courts to challenge the SIR exercise. “The judiciary should take immediate cognisance of this matter. This is a constitutional violation,” he said.
Akhilesh Yadav also warned that the more the PDA (Backward, Dalit, and Minority) community is persecuted, the more its unity will grow. “The PDA will become stronger with each attempt to suppress it,” he said, adding that his party will continue to stand up for the rights of the marginalised.
Akhilesh Yadav’s remarks highlight the growing importance of the PDA community in the political landscape. He emphasised that the PDA community is not just a vote bank but a crucial part of the democratic fabric. “Whoever is suffering is PDA,” he said, underscoring the need for greater representation and protection of their rights.
