Samajwadi Party president and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has blamed it all on both Congress and BJP for the ongoing chapter of disaster in Uttarakhand.

Addressing a press conference at Haldwani in Uttarakhand on Sunday, Yadav said, “after the creation of Uttarakhand, the people had hoped that there would be development and prosperity. But the Governments here have ruined this State. Today, instead of going on the path of development, Uttarakhand is going towards destruction.”

“Be it the BJP or the Congress Governments, environmental experts had cautioned all of them. Many reports of scientists came, all had given their opinion and had told that if work is done indiscriminately in the name of development, the land will collapse. But the Government did not accept the opinion of the environmentalists and promoted NTPC and similar power projects for profit,” he claimed.

The SP president said that the BJP Government has ruined Joshimath and its surrounding areas. “Many incidents took place in Uttarakhand earlier also, from which lessons should have been taken. The Kedarnath incident happened in which a large number of people lost their lives,” he added.

Yadav said that the Samajwadi Party demands that the damage done in Joshimath should be compensated according to the market rate.

Regarding the Vanbhulpura case of Haldwani, Yadav said that they hope that the decision would come in favor of the poor, who have been living for so many years,” he said.
