Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav has questioned the Uttar Pradesh government’s functioning citing the increasing administrative pressure on booth-level officers (BLOs) amid the spate of suicides by BLOs in the state. He said that the BLOs are facing excessive workload and unnecessary pressure in voter list work, causing them mental stress.
Akhilesh Yadav, in a statement here on Monday, alleged that the pressure is being exerted first to remove names through Form-7 and now to add names through Form-6. In such an environment, many employees are suffering from mental distress.
The SP president referred to the suicide of a Shiksha Mitra BLO from the Bindki area of Fatehpur district, calling it extremely sad. He said that the lack of leave and work pressure amid family responsibilities is a matter of serious concern.
He appealed to all BLOs to maintain restraint, saying that no situation is more important than life. He demanded that the government should not put unnecessary pressure on employees and ensure humane treatment.
The SP president said that sensitivity and transparency are essential in the administrative system. Employees’ problems should be resolved through dialogue and empathy, so that such incidents are not repeated in the future.
