Samajwadi Party National President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has alleged that the BJP was shedding crocodile’s tears on the issue of OBC reservation in civic elections.

“Today, BJP has taken away the reservation rights of backward people, tomorrow BJP will also take away the reservation given to Dalits by Babasaheb B R Ambedkar,” he said.

Yadav, in a statement here on Tuesday, said that the BJP government has not only cheated the backward people but has also conspired to destroy the Constitutional rights given by Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.

“The decision to end reservation for OBCs in civic elections is unfortunate. The real facts were deliberately not presented before the court by the government which led to denial of reservation to 60 per cent of the population of UP. This arbitrary process was done by the BJP only for its own benefit,” he charged.

Yadav said that the Samajwadi Party has always fought for social justice by imbibing the ideas of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia and former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh and have demanded caste census and social justice.

He said the anti-backward intention of the BJP government has become clear. “What the BJP is not able to do on its own, it gets done through PIL in the court. BJP’s character and real face has been exposed in front of the whole world. Those who used to call themselves backward class well-wishers are looking like bonded laborers in BJP today,” he said.

The SP president said that the plan of the BJP government is to end the representation of the backward classes in the society. “BJP wants to completely destroy the structure of social justice given by Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. Now those who have given the slogan of Antyodaya have done the work of snatching away the rights and respect of the backward sections of the society which is unfortunate for democracy,” he added.

Yadav has appealed to the backwards and Dalits to come together with Samajwadi Party in the fight to save reservation and announced that first there should be reservation for backward, then only elections should be held.
