Ajay Kumar Bhalla given additional charge as Nagaland Governor

President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the current Governor of Manipur, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Nagaland in addition to his existing duties. The appointment takes effect immediately following the demise of Shri La. Ganesan, Governor of Nagaland.

“Consequent upon the demise of Shri La. Ganesan, Governor of Nagaland, the President of India has appointed Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Nagaland, in addition to his own duties,” a press communiqué issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said on Saturday.

Ajay Kumar Bhalla, a 1984-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has been serving as the Governor of Manipur since January 3, 2025. Prior to his gubernatorial appointment, he served as Union Home Secretary for nearly five years, until August 22, 2024.

Given the current socio-political landscape in Manipur and Nagaland, Bhalla’s leadership will be crucial in maintaining stability and fostering development in both states.
