AIIMS-Bhubaneswar to launch skin bank and liver transplantation services soon

Liver transplantation, skin bank, and many more medical care procedures are poised to start at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Bhubaneswar to cater to the needs of people of the state and neighbouring states in eastern India, Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director of the premier health institute, said on Sunday.

Speaking at the 13th Annual Day function of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, Dr. Biswas highlighted outstanding healthcare achievements, digital innovation, and academic excellence in the past year.

“We have performed complex, life-saving procedures while focusing on holistic patient care,” Dr. Biswas said.

This year, AIIMS-Bhubaneswar has provided health consultations to over 11 lakh outpatients and admitted over 45,000 inpatients. Successfully linking more than 26 lakh ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) digital health records, the institute also registered 17,000 blood donors during the year. The national institute has been ranked 14th in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, a significant rise from 31st in 2021. Ranked the 2nd Best Emerging Medical College by India Today-MDRA Survey 2025, this achievement underscores the institute’s progress, he concluded.

The event was also graced by Dr. Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, the first Director of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, as the Chief Guest. He lauded the institution’s contributions to transforming medical care in eastern India.

“The institution has consistently demonstrated a commitment to compassionate care, cutting-edge innovation, and inclusive growth in healthcare delivery,” Dr. Mahapatra noted in his keynote address.

The event was attended, among other,s by several prominent dignitaries, including Dr. P R Mohapatra, DEAN (Academic), Dr. Satyajit Mishra, DEAN (Research), Dr. Soubhagya Kumar Jena, DEAN (Exam), Dr. Ashok Kumar Jena, Medical Superintendent (I/c), Dr. Sudipta Ranjan Singh, Registrar, and Lt Col. Abhijit Sarkar, DDA.

As AIIMS-Bhubaneswar enters its 14th year, it continues to set new benchmarks in healthcare delivery, academic excellence, and research innovation, staying true to its mission of serving with compassion, integrity, and scientific rigour, the AIIMS authorities claimed.
