A laboratory assistant posted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)- Bhubaneswar was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the early hours today on the outskirts of the city, bringing to the fore the spiraling crime graph in the State’s Capital.
Sudhanshu Khuntia, laboratory assistant hired on outsourcing by AIIMS- Bhubaneswar was shot at from close range by the miscreants. With one of the bullets fired by the killers piercing through his chest, Khuntia succumbed to injuries at the crime spot. He was brought dead at AIIMS. The deceased while on the way to his workplace on a motorcycle fell prey to assassins’ bullet near Ransinghpur locality under Khandagiri police station jurisdiction, said a senior police officer.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear. Following the incident, a clash reportedly broke out in the area, adding to the tension.
Sharp rise in crimes in Bhubaneswar, Odisha’s Capital city, has become a matter of concern of late for the law-abiding citizens. Lawbreakers emboldened by slack policing are on the prowl. The criminals are striking the soft target with consummate ease at the opportune moments, commented large sections of people in the city.
