The Special MP-MLA Court has set the next date of hearing in the case filed against film actress Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP from Mandi Lok Sabha constituency in Himachal Pradesh to March 6.
The case was heard in the court of Judge Anuj Kumar Singh of the Special MP-MLA Court here on Thursday.
The case is said to be related to alleged insults to farmers and treason. The court had previously sought a report from the New Agra police station under Section 225 of the CrPC.
Advocates Sukhbir Singh Chauhan, Rajveer Singh, and BS Faujdar, representing petitioner Ramashankar Sharma, questioned the police report. They argued that while the police recorded statements from the petitioner and witnesses, they did not record Kangana Ranaut’s personal statement.
A statement provided by Supreme Court advocate Anusuya Chaudhary on her behalf was attached, which is inconsistent with the court’s order.
Ramashankar Sharma, speaking on the matter, argued in court that since the case directly involves Kangana Ranaut, why isn’t she appearing in person to present her side?
He questioned whether an accused’s statement can be given by their lawyer. He argued that if lawyers continue to testify in similar cases, the purpose of the judicial process will be compromised.
He also said that Kangana is not a big enough celebrity to ignore court orders. “Even the Prime Minister has to follow court orders,” was also said during the debate.
After hearing arguments, the court asked the plaintiffs to submit a judicial ruling regarding whether an advocate can testify on behalf of the accused in the next hearing.
In the last hearing in this case on January 29, 2026, the police report prepared by the Inspector-in-Charge, New Agra, was presented to the court. However, detailed arguments could not be held that day. Now, arguments from both sides were heard.
