Following the historic breakthrough of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections, where party chief Joseph Vijay took over as Chief Minister on Sunday, the party has officially begun expanding its political footprint into Kerala.

The steps to form the TVK’s first unit have been initiated at Vengappally, in Watanad which shares the border with Tamil Nadu. The TVK’s Kerala expansion is being spearheaded by Safwan Khalil, who leads a group of 20 youths.

The group consists of young people who are IT professionals and commerce graduates signaling a focus on a “new generation” of politics. They had put up large flex boards in Vengappally town congratulating TVK on its election victory.

Efforts are heavily focused on digital recruitment. Local organizers are using the ‘My TVK’ app to register members, targeting youth and the professional class. They have decided to hold an official meeting and announce the office bearers once the technical procedures for the TVK app are completed. They also claimed that Vijay fans from other parts of Wayanad district are also showing interest in collaborating with TVK units.

Plans for further units are underway in districts in Kerala like Palakkad, managed by digital strategist Ashwin Jayaprakash. Although specific town-level units for all districts have not been fully listed, reports indicate that the party’s vision is attracting interest from youth and professionals across the state, with the “My TVK” app being used for registrations in various other districts.

While the party is currently building its grassroots foundation, the focus in Kerala is expected to mirror Vijay’s “secular social justice” platform, tailored to the state’s unique political landscape. The TVK’s Kerala expansion is specifically targeting educated youth, IT professionals, and graduates to build a modern political foundation in the state.
