Social commentator and activist Rahul Easwar was arrested by the Kerala Police on Monday in connection with a defamation and cyber‑harassment complaint filed by a woman who had earlier accused Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil of sexual assault.

According to sources, the complainant alleged that Easwar and others circulated her personal photos and details online as part of a targeted campaign against her.

Police seized Easwar’s electronic devices, including his laptop and mobile phone, as part of the investigation. He was arrested under non-bailable provisions, and authorities have booked a total of four individuals in connection with the online harassment.

This is not the first time Easwar has faced legal action over defamatory remarks. Earlier this year, Actor Honey Rose had filed a complaint against him for social media defamation, and his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Kerala High Court. Authorities emphasized that the arrest underscores the state’s commitment to protecting the dignity and privacy of sexual assault survivors and cracking down on online harassment and defamation.
