President Droupadi Murmu Thursday appointed Acharya Devvrat, the current Governor of Gujarat, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Maharashtra, in addition to his own duties. This decision comes after C P Radhakrishnan, the previous Governor of Maharashtra, was elected as the Vice President of India.
C P Radhakrishnan’s election as Vice President marks a significant development in Indian politics. Radhakrishnan, a seasoned politician and former Governor of Maharashtra, secured 452 votes in the Electoral College, defeating the Opposition candidate, Justice B Sudershan Reddy, who polled 300 votes.
Acharya Devvrat will now hold additional charge as the Governor of Maharashtra, overseeing the state’s administration until a new Governor is appointed. As the Governor of Gujarat, Devvrat has been actively involved in promoting social and economic development and welfare initiatives.
The appointment of Acharya Devvrat to discharge the functions of the Governor of Maharashtra is a significant development, ensuring continuity in the state’s administration. As C P Radhakrishnan takes oath as the Vice President, he is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the country’s legislative agenda.
