Trinamool Congress (TMC) General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has left for Delhi on Saturday to attend the crucial INDIA bloc meeting in the national capital on Monday (June 8, 2026). The TMC, which has fallen from power in West Bengal in the recently concluded state assembly elections, had often maintained its distance from the Congress-led Opposition bloc.

This also comes amid reports of an internal rift among party MPs, following a recent exodus of multiple MLAs in West Bengal.

The INDIA bloc suffered a mega setback after the assembly elections as the TMC and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), two of its major political parties, suffered electoral setbacks in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu respectively.

Cracks In Opposition Bloc

While the DMK has indicated that it is going to boycott the opposition meeting after its ally, the Congress ditched it and joined hands with the Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government in Tamil Nadu, the Trinamool Congress is facing its own internal crisis, as 58 elected MLAs declared themselves to be the real TMC, and demanded the Leader of Opposition post for their leader Ritabrata Banerjee.

In a major organisational rejig after the recent electoral loss, the TMC appointing senior minister Chandrima Bhattacharya as the new president of the West Bengal Pradesh Trinamul Congress on Friday.

Who All Are Attending

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren are expected to attend the meeting. Reports also indicate that Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray would be attending the meeting in Delhi.
