seven-year-old swimmer from Jharkhand has crossed the Palk Strait between Sri Lanka and India, covering a distance of about 29 km, according to family members and local sources.

The child, Ishank, completed the swim from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka to Dhanushkodi in India in 9 hours and 50 minutes, navigating rough sea conditions and strong waves during the journey.

The feat is being seen as a rare achievement for a swimmer of his age. Certification of the record is currently under process with relevant authorities.

Family members said Ishank had taken to swimming at an early age and trained regularly. His coach attributed the achievement to consistent practice and endurance.

The Palk Strait is considered a challenging open-water stretch due to unpredictable weather and marine conditions.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren congratulated the young swimmer, stating that the achievement reflects discipline and determination and brings recognition to the state.

Local residents and sports enthusiasts have also welcomed the achievement, with calls for support and training opportunities to help the swimmer progress further.
