Six people were killed and three others injured when a dumper crushed two auto-rickshaws on Jaleshwar Road under the Khandauli police station area on Saturday.
Police said that the impact of the collision was so severe that both autos were thrown off the road, hit a tree about 10 feet away, and overturned into a ditch. The occupants suffered serious head and facial injuries. The badly damaged autos split in two, with their roofs blown off.
It was reported that the people in the tempo had returned from the Char Dham Yatra and were heading to their village from Agra railway station. Eyewitnesses said the truck driver was drunk and was speeding at over 100 km/h. The tempos were traveling on the side of the road when the truck lost control and crushed both of them. Locals caught the driver and handed him over to the police.
Additional CP Aditya Kumar said, “All the injured have been admitted to the hospital. The accident occurred at 11 am.”
