6 killed, 56 injured in bus collision in TN

In a horrific incident, six people, including four women, were killed and 56 others injured in head-on collision involving two private buses in southern Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu.

The collision occurred on the Thirumangalam-Kollam National Highway and on information police, fire and rescue services and revenue personnel rushed to the spot. Local people too joined the rescue effort. The injured were shifted to hospitals in ambulances.

Since the buses were mangled, rescue personnel battled hard to bring out those trapped inside.

Initially, reports pout the toll at 8, but Chief Minister M K Stalin in his condolence message, expressing deep anguish and shock to learn the death of six passengers, has directed the District incharge Minister KKSSR Ramachandran to proceed to Tenkasi immediately and supervise the rescue and relief work. He also directed District Collector Kamal Kishore to take care of the injured admitted to the hospital.

An official release said, the Chief Minister had announced a solatium of Rs three lakh each to the families of the victims and Rs 50,000 for the injured, being treated at hospitals in Kadayanallur and Tenkasi.
