Delimitation of panchayats for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh rural local bodies’ polls have been completed with the abolition of 512 panchayats and adding 11 new one.
The highest number of the abolished gram panchayats were of Deoria, Azamgarh, and Pratapgarh districts
While 58,195 gram pradhans were elected in the Panchayat Elections of 2021, in the next panchayat polls in the state it has been decreased to 57,694 village pradhans.
Officials said here on Thursday that preparations for the three-tier panchayat elections to be held in April-May next year in the state have started with the completion of delimitation of the gram panchayats. The Panchayati Raj Department will not go for determing the reservation of the seats.
Due to the expansion of urban area, 64 gram panchayats in Deoria, 49 in Azamgarh, and 46 gram panchayats in Pratapgarh have been abolished. Apart from this, 16 gram panchayats have ended in Aligarh, three in Ambedkarnagar, 21 in Amroha, and 22 in Ayodhya districts.
A total of four gram panchayats have ended in Bahraich, while two new revenue villages have been created in the district.
While seven panchayats each in Balrampur and Barabanki, five each in Bareilly and Bulandshahr, three in Chitrakoot, six in Etah, two in Etawah, 14 in Farrukhabad, 19 in Fatehpur, six in Gautam Buddha Nagar, 19 in Ghaziabad, 22 each in Gonda and Gorakhpur, 14 in Hardoi, one in Hathras, six in Jaunpur, one in Kheri, 23 in Kushinagar, 3 in Lucknow, 9 in Mathura, 26 in Mau, 11 in Muzaffarnagar, 8 in Rae Bareli, 24 in Santakbirnagar, one in Shahjahanpur, 11 in Sitapur, 8 each in Sonbhadra, and four in Unnao districts were abolished.
However, two new gram panchayats have been created by court order in Basti. These areas were included in the city in the 2021 election. Along with this, a new gram panchayat has been formed in Azamgarh, Barabanki, Fatehpur, Gorakhpur, Hardoi, Pratapgarh and Unnao.
