Five members of a family of Khurseliguda village died on the spot and two sustained critical injuries in a road accident on Wednesday when the car in which they were travelling collided with a truck on National Highway 26 near Jaring, 15kms from Bhawanipatna in Odisha.

The family was returning from Visakhapatnam where they had been for a health check-up and was heading to Kesinga station.

The deceased were identified as Asutosh Behera (58), Jagannath Behera (55), Binayak Behera (32), two minor children Sobha Behera (4) and Sibia Behera (1).

Among the two injured persons, Nivia Behera (25) has been shifted to a hospital Visakhapatnam in critical condition and Khenji Kata (60), the maidservant of the family, is under treatment in Bhawanipatna Government Hospital in Odisha.

Late Asutosh Behera was a widely known person as he was involved in religious work. Many people rushed to Khurseliguda village to mourn the sad demise of the family.
