A young couple, along with their two minor children, died by suicide by jumping into a water tank in Loharki village near Pokaran town in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district on Sunday night.

According to a police spokesperson, Jasraj Suthar (30), his wife Nirma (28), their 10-year-old son and five-year-old daughter were found dead in the tank. At around 9 pm on Sunday, Jasraj’s brother saw the four family members heading towards the water reservoir and raised an alarm, following which villagers rushed to the spot.

However, by the time the villagers reached the tank, the couple and their children had already died. Their bodies were floating in the water. The villagers immediately retrieved the bodies and rushed them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared all four dead.

The reasons and circumstances behind the incident are yet to be ascertained. It is also not immediately known whether the couple first killed the children before entering the tank themselves or whether the entire family entered the water together.

Shortly before the incident, the children had returned home after attending a birthday party in the neighbourhood.
