In a commendable operation, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) of Uttarakhand Police successfully rescued three trekkers, including two women, who had lost their way in the forests of Mahidanda on Varunavat Mountain in Uttarkashi district.
According to SDRF officials, the rescued individuals hailed from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The rescue operation was launched after the SDRF’s Disaster Control Room in Uttarkashi received an alert that three persons had gone missing while trekking in the Mahidanda forest area. The missing individuals had themselves reported their situation through a phone call.
Acting swiftly, an SDRF team led by Sub-Inspector Ashutosh Chauhan, along with a team of local police, rushed to the location equipped with all necessary rescue gear. After an intensive search operation through challenging terrain, the joint team successfully located and rescued the trio.
The rescued trekkers were identified as Deepti Guruji (35), a resident of Mandir Vatvriksha, Sukartal, Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh); Achalanand Puri (36), a resident of Rishi Sangh, Shyampur, Rishikesh (Uttarakhand); and Pooja Ramani (36), a resident of Thakurdwara Road, Mumbai-2 (Maharashtra).
Following the rescue, the SDRF handed the individuals over to the state’s 112 emergency service for medical assessment and further assistance.
Officials praised the coordinated efforts of the SDRF and Uttarkashi District Police, whose timely response ensured the safe recovery of the trekkers.
