In a jailbreak that appears too easy, raising questions about prison officials, one murder accused and two rape accused undertrial prisoners escaped from the Khachrod Sub-Jail in Madhya Pradesh by simply using a ladder to climb over the jail’s wall.
The incident triggered panic and commotion among jail authorities. An inquiry has been launched into the glaring incident that took place late evening on Thursday in the sub-jail located in Nagda town of the Ujjain district.
The police were informed, and a massive manhunt has been launched, and photos of the three escapees have been widely circulated.
As per the police, the three prisoners have been identified as murder undertrial Govind (35) of Nagda, rape accused Narayan Jat (31), and another rape accused, Gopal of Malakhedi village.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the three were engaged in wall painting work. They had a ladder, which they did not bring back, and left it against the jail wall after completing work.
They also managed to somehow get the keys of the women’s cell, open its lock, and subsequently climb the ladder to easily escape from the prison sometime around 6.30 pm.
Their escape came to light after about an hour, when jail officials took the routine head count of prisoners at 7.30 pm.
Ujjain is the home district of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, who is also the state’s Home Minister.
