29,000 vacant govt jobs filled up, 1 lakh created in private sectors after BJP came to power: Odisha CM Majhi

The Odisha government has resolved to fill up as many as 85,000 vacant posts in government departments in two years in an effort to create employment for jobseekers and increase efficiency in governance, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Friday during the observance of 79th Independence Day in Bhubaneswar.

In the last 6-7 months, more than 60 industries have been set up in Odisha and an investment of more than Rs 1.8 lakh crore has been made. This has led to the creation of more than 1 lakh jobs, he further said.

Stating that adequate manpower is crucial to increase efficiency in the government sector, Majhi said special emphasis is being laid on creating employment scope for youths and filling up the vacant government jobs.

Since the BJP government came to power, 28,392 posts have been filled up in the state. In addition, the recruitment process for filling 34,500 posts is in progress by various departments. Official sanction will also be given soon to fill 22,896 vacant posts, he added.

We had set a target of filling 65,000 government posts in 2 years. However, we have decided to fill up at least 85,000 posts. Our government is moving at a very fast pace in the field of employment, not only achieving the target but the getting the better of targeted filling up of vacancies, CM Majhi further said.

Since the BJP government came to power 14 months back, Odisha has embarked on a new journey of development. People of Odisha elected a new government with the hope of a new sunrise. I have no hesitation in saying today that our government has been able to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people of the state. Still, there are miles to go and the State will stride ahead in the path of progress and prosperity under able guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Under the leadership and guidance of the Prime Minister, a scheme has been prepared for four main sections of the state. These are

The betterment of women, farmers, poor and backward sections besides and the youth remains on the list priorities; he said listing out the plans and programs in this regard.

Along with agriculture, industry and allied activities are of paramount importance to the overall development of the State, he remarked.

Stating that Odisha’s economy cannot be increased significantly by agriculture alone, he said about 92 percent of our state is small and marginal farmers.

Therefore, along with agriculture, the government has drawn up comprehensive policies to improve the fisheries, animal husbandry, poultry and cattle sectors. In a step in this regard, assistance of up to Rs one crore rupees is being provided under the “Mukhyamantri Krishi Kanip Yojana” for setting up agrarian industries.

Dwelling upon the welfare measures taken to provide facelift to the farming sector, Majhi said under our Samriddhi Kisan Yojana and PM and CM Kisan Yojana, more than 5 lakh farmers of Odisha are getting assistance of Rs 10,000 per year. Through various other schemes of the government, the annual income of farmer families has gone up at least Rs 30,000 per year.

Highlighting steps taken towards industrialization, the Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 conclave has created a viable scope of Rs 17 lakh crore investment and 1.3 lakh employment opportunities in the industrial sector.

The government is committed to the welfare of not only big industries, but also the weavers of the state. The Odisha Textile Conclave was recently organized, in which more than 53,000 employment opportunities have been created with a capital proposal of Rs. 7,800 crore.
