Twenty-five cadres of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), including six Special Zonal Committee Members (SZCMs), six Area Committee Members (ACMs) and 13 cadre members, surrendered before Jharkhand Police on Thursday under Operation Navjeevan. Two cadres of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) also surrendered separately.
According to Jharkhand Police, the surrendered CPI (Maoist) members were active in the Kolhan and Saranda regions of West Singhbhum district and were associated with the team of Central Committee member Misir Besra alias Sagar Ji and Asim Mandal.
Police said the 25 surrendered Maoists deposited 16 firearms, including one INSAS LMG, four INSAS rifles, nine SLR rifles, one .303 bolt-action rifle and one country-made pistol. They also surrendered 27 magazines, 2,857 rounds of ammunition and eight wireless sets.
Among those who surrendered were Karan alias Dangur Tiyu, Gadi Munda alias Gulshan, Nagendra Munda alias Prabhat Munda, Rekha Munda alias Jayanti, Sagen Angaria alias Dokel, Darshan alias Binj Hansda and Suleman Hansda alias Suni Hansda. Police records show that several of them were wanted in multiple cases registered in West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Ranchi and Khunti districts.
Police said several surrendered cadres were allegedly involved in major Maoist incidents in recent years, including the 2022 attack on former MLA Gurucharan Nayak, attacks on security forces, IED blasts and looting of explosives from a magazine in West Singhbhum district.
In a separate development, two JJMP members active in Gumla district also surrendered. They included Sachin Baik alias Eugene Baik, a Special Zonal Committee member carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh, and Shravan Gop, an Area Committee member. One INSAS rifle, four magazines and 130 rounds of ammunition were deposited by the surrendered JJMP cadres.
Jharkhand Police said that in 2026 so far, 44 extremists have been arrested, 29 have surrendered and 22 have been killed in encounters. The police also stated that 21 Advance Camp Locations and Forward Operating Bases have been established in the Saranda region to strengthen anti-Naxal operations.
Police said the surrender occurred under the state government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.
