24-hr debate on UP Vision 2047 commences in assembly: SP to protest inside House

Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly

The 24-hour special discussion on the UP 2047 Vision Document commenced in the Uttar Pradesh assembly on Wednesday. The opposition in the state, the Samajwadi Party, had announced that it would boycott the special discussion but later decided to attend the debate.

State Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna initiated the discussion.

The Samajwadi Party said it would present its ‘vision document’ about the lapses in the over-8-year-old Yogi Adityanath government in the state.

Before the discussion commenced, Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana announced the duration for the discussion.

Samajwadi Party MLA Sangram Singh Yadav said that the government should tell how many works were completed in the vision document, including those between 2017 and 2022. He said that Vision 2047 is related to the development of Uttar Pradesh, so extra time should be given.

UP Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna initiated the discussion on the vision document. He said the result of continuous work in eight years is that UP, which used to be a sick state, is now moving towards becoming a progressive state.

He said that India will become a developed nation only when the states take concrete and effective steps to develop. “Therefore, it is being started with a discussion on the matter. With the cooperation of NITI Aayog, experts, and other institutions, we will give concrete shape to the vision document of developed Uttar Pradesh of 2047, which will guide the state with an action plan in achieving this goal,” he stated.

Khanna said that this is the first assembly of India where the vision document is being discussed. He said that the vision of 2047 aims to plan and work to make the economy of the state the fastest-growing one in the country.

Meanwhile, a roster of 28 ministers has been issued directions to be present in the House from 6 pm on Wednesday to 11 am on Thursday. The maximum number of 8 ministers will be present between 3 am and 6 am. The roster of mandatory presence of ministers in the House at all times will come into effect from 6 pm on Wednesday. Other ministers will be present in the House in addition to 28. The time from 6 pm to 11 am on Thursday has been divided into six shifts, with each shift having two hours. The remaining shifts will be of 3 hours each.

The opposition SP has also prepared its strategy for the discussion on the vision document. SP members say that they will be present in the House and expose the false promises of the BJP.

SP MLA RK Verma said, “We have seen the BJP’s vision document long ago. He asked questions like whether black money came back (to the country), Rs 15 lakhs reached every account, and 2 crore people got employment.”

”What were the benefits of demonetisation, and what was the fate of the promise of doubling the income of farmers?” he further asked.

SP’s chief spokesperson, Rajendra Chaudhary, said that this discussion was unnecessary and the party will decide its strategy inside the assembly.
