Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi on Wednesday informed that 23 acres of land at the Okhla landfill site have already been cleared of waste.
Wahi, who visited the Okhla landfill site to review the progress of ongoing Bio-remediation and waste management operations, said the legacy waste accumulated at the Okhla landfill site would be disposed of within approximately one week.
The Mayor added that fresh waste arriving at the Okhla landfill site would also be processed and disposed of by December.
Officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) briefed Wahi on the current status of bio-mining activities and the work underway at the site.
The Mayor expressed satisfaction with the progress of waste disposal at the Okhla landfill.
MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, Additional Commissioner Dr. Satendra Singh Dursawat, Engineer-in-Chief P C Meena and senior officials of the MCD were present during the inspection.
“We are very close to the goal of making the Okhla landfill site waste-free and eliminating the mountains of garbage,” Wahi said.
He reviewed the progress of waste disposal and expressed satisfaction with the pace of the work.
Wahi mentioned that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is personally monitoring the bio-mining operations at the landfill sites.
The Mayor said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s workforce and machinery are working with great dedication and the task of waste disposal at the landfill site will be completed within the scheduled timeframe.
