In order to revive the Congress party’s sagging fortune in Uttar Pradesh, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi is likely to get the major responsibility, where it won just one out of 80 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, party sources said.

According to Congress sources, “Priyanka Gandhi can be made the in-charge of entire Uttar Pradesh, keeping an eye on the 2022 Assembly elections.”

A senior party leader said, “The decision to appoint Priyanka Gandhi will be announced in the coming days.”

The demands to make her the chief ministerial candidate was made during Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi’s “thank you” visit to Rae Bareli on June 13 for sending her mother back to the Lok Sabha.

Priyanka told the party workers, “This is the time of struggle.” Priyanka asserted, “You make up your mind, if you want to work in right earnest, you have to struggle, this is all I have to say”. , Priyanka Gandhi held a series of meetings with party leaders to get feedback on strengthening the organisation. All the district and block committees of the party in the state were dissolved and a three-member disciplinary committee was formed.

Even on Tuesday, she launched an attack on the government over the state of economy. The General Secretary of Indian National Congress said the government should now admit that there is a “historic slowdown” and move towards resolving it.

She said the slowdown was for everyone to see and asked till when will the government run by “managing headlines.”

“Telling a lie a hundred times does not turn it into truth. The BJP government should accept that there is a historic slowdown in the economy and they should move towards taking measures to resolve it,” she said in a tweet in Hindi.
