2 Muslim women councillors booked in Indore

The Indore police have registered an FIR against two Muslim women councillors of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) for not singing ’Vande Mataram’ at an official meeting.

According to the police, the FIR has been registered against Congress corporator Fauzia Sheikh Aleem and Independent corporator Rubina Iqbal Khan.

Indore Deputy Commissioner of Police Amarendra Singh said that a case was registered against Fauzia and Rubina at the MG Road police station following an investigation into a complaint against them. The duo have been charged under Section 196 of the BNS (acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony between different communities).

Upon finding the case cognisable, the police registered an FIR and initiated a detailed investigation, he said.

Both Muslim women councillors had refused to sing ‘Vande Mataram at the IMC budget meeting on 8 April, citing religious reasons.
