A 19-year-old medical aspirant was found dead at her home in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district after she allegedly died by suicide following disappointment over her NEET re-examination score, police said on Monday.
The incident comes amid continuing scrutiny of the NEET examination process and renewed concerns over the mental health impact on students affected by the controversy surrounding the entrance test.
The deceased was identified as Ankita Suresh Sangle, a resident of Jalalpur village in Karjat taluka. According to police, she had secured 166 marks in the recent NEET re-examination.

Police register accidental death case
Karjat Police have registered an accidental death case and have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to Ankita’s father, Suresh Sangle, she died by suicide on Saturday afternoon after hanging herself from a ceiling fan inside their home.
He said his daughter had prepared extensively for the medical entrance examination and had initially secured good marks. However, she had been under considerable stress after allegations of irregularities in the NEET examination surfaced.
The NEET-UG examination was leaked in May, following which the government conducted a re-examination on June 21.
Several aspirants allegedly died by suicide after the paper leak controversy, triggering widespread public outrage over the examination process.
