16 new vintage beauties hit the road


There were 16 newcomers at the 52nd edition of The Statesman Vintage and Classic Car Rally here on Sunday and among them was one who had come all the way from Gujarat.

Daval Thakore’s 1932 Chevrolet, with a 60 horse power engine, transported his beautiful car from Ahmedabad. For Thakore the Rally was an exhilarating experience.

“The first time experience was wonderful and when I saw the passion and love of the other owners, I got extra motivation to maintain my beautiful car,” he said.

Thakore thanked The Statesman for providing an opportunity to lovers of vintage vehicles to show their treasured possessions to the world.

Ruchi B Jain, who drove a 1934 Singer car of the Krishna motor garage, was also very enthusiastic and said she had a wonderful experience. “I am very happy to drive this car and the facilities provided by The Statesman were excellent,” she added.

There were 14 other first time participants in the Rally including a 1926 Fiat, 1927 Austin, 1927 Chevrolet, 1933 Ford, 1939 Rolls Royce, 1939 Austin 8, 1939 Lagonda, 1947 Rover, 1948 Cadillac, 1949 Buick, 1954 Desoto, 1959 Pontiac, 1947 Austin 8 and 1951 Fiat- 500 cc.
