Sixteen active cadres of the banned CPI (Maoist), including a Regional Committee Member carrying a reward of Rs 15 lakh, surrendered before the Jharkhand Police under Operation Navjeevan-II on Tuesday, handing over 11 sophisticated firearms and 1,562 rounds of live ammunition.
Director General of Police Tadasha Mishra said the surrendered cadres comprised one Regional Committee Member (RCM), three Zonal Committee Members (ZCMs), three Sub-Zonal Committee Members (SZCMs), six Area Committee Members (ACMs) and three cadre members. Five of the surrendered cadres are women. Most were active in the Kolhan and Saranda forest region, while two operated in Latehar district.
The surrendered Maoists deposited six INSAS rifles, two AK-47 rifles, one HK-33 rifle, one US Carbine, one M-16 rifle, 38 magazines and 1,562 live cartridges.
Police said the cadres were associated with the teams of senior Maoist leaders Misir Besra alias Sagar Ji and Asim Mandal. The DGP attributed the surrenders to sustained anti-Naxal operations by the Jharkhand Police, CRPF, CoBRA battalions and Jharkhand Jaguar, coupled with the state’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.
CRPF Inspector General Saket Singh said eight other members of the same group also surrendered in neighbouring Chhattisgarh. According to the police, 15 of the surrendered cadres belong to Jharkhand, while one is a resident of Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
Police data showed that 93 Maoists have been arrested, 45 have surrendered and 22 have been killed in encounters in Jharkhand so far in 2026. The police appealed to remaining Maoist cadres to shun violence and avail themselves of the state’s rehabilitation policy.
According to police records released along with the press note, several of the surrendered cadres were allegedly involved in major incidents, including IED blasts, attacks on security forces, killings of civilians and other Maoist-related offences in West Singhbhum and Latehar districts over the past several years.
