The condition of 14 jail inmates, observing a hunger strike for the past four days for basic facilities in Bayana sub jail in the Bharatpur district, were hospitalised on Tuesday as their condition deteriorated. They are presently under treatment by doctors.

While nine of the 14 agitating inmates were rushed to the District Hospital five others were under treatment in the jail premises itself by a team of doctors sent in by the district authorities.

A Jails Spokesman said, 30 prisoners from Gangapur City Jail were transferred to Bayana sub jail on April 22, 2026.

However, seeing the “lack of even basic amenities”, they resorted to hunger strike in the jail from April 24, 2026 demanding their transfer to the Sewar Central Jail or any other district jail equipped with essential facilities.

The administration has immediately intervened and persuaded them to call off the stir. While 16 of the fasting inmates agreed to end their hunger strike, the remaining 14 did not relent and were still observing fast.
