After 10-year-long manhunt, 2008 Gujarat blasts mastermind arrested

In a major breakthrough, Delhi Police today arrested SIMI-IM operative Abdul Subhan Qureshi (Indian Mujahideen co-founder) from Gazipur at the outskirt of national capital. He is one of the most wanted terrorists in the country as he is known to be the mastermind behind the 2008 Gujarat blasts.

According to media reports, Qureshi is a suspected bomb-maker.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) PS Kushwah said that the police arrested one of the most wanted terrorists of Students Islamic Movement of India(SIMI) – Indian Mujahideen (IM) Abdul Subhan Qureshi after a brief exchange of fire.

“He is the mastermind of the 2008 serial blasts in Gujarat,” Kushwah said.

It is believed that he was in Delhi to meet his associated and he had been trying to revive terrorism. He went to Saudi Arabia to gather funds.

Apart from Gujarat, he is also suspected of being involved in 2006 Mumbai train bombings. The National Investigating Agency has got him listed in its most wanted list. The agency had announced a reward of Rs 4 lakh for any information regarding him in a bid to arrest him.

He is wanted by the NIA in connection to terror attacks in Delhi, Bengaluru and the Mumbai train bombings.

Gujarat police had announced his name as a suspect in a connection with an email which claimed the responsibility for the 2008 Gujarat bombings. The email was sent to TV channels using the WiFi network of a US national.
