10 killed in two separate road accidents in Uttar Pradesh

At least 10 people were killed and several others got injured in two separate road accidents in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, May 26.

In the first accident, a double-decker AC bus in Unnao went out of control and overturned on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway at around 5 a.m. Six passengers were killed and more than 15 injured in the accident.

The bus, travelling from Delhi to Bihar, was carrying around 30 passengers. Initial police investigations indicate that the driver dozed off while driving.

Police said the bus was moving at high speed when the driver lost control. The vehicle hit a divider, overturned, and got stuck on a railing. Several passengers were thrown out of the windows onto the expressway.

The accident occurred near kilometre 262 of the expressway in the Auras police station area. The injured were admitted to a nearby government hospital.

After receiving initial treatment, the critically injured were referred to the Lucknow Trauma Centre, while others were shifted to the district hospital. The deceased are yet to be identified.

Meanwhile, in another accident in Barabanki district, an SUV travelling at around 100 kmph rammed into a trailer from behind.

Four friends were killed in the accident, while three others sustained critical injuries. The passengers were on their way to Kainchi Dham in Uttarakhand. The accident occurred around 3 a.m. on Tuesday on the Lucknow-Sultanpur Highway.

Initial police investigations revealed that the SUV driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. Police and local residents rescued the injured from the vehicle and rushed them to hospital, where doctors declared four of them dead.

The deceased have been identified as Rahul Kumar (29), a resident of Chandauli; Rahul Singh (30), a resident of Ghazipur; Satyam Singh (30), a resident of Ballia; and Suraj Mishra (31), a resident of Sultanpur.

Pankaj and Chandan, both residents of Mirzapur, along with Prashant, a resident of Ballia, were injured in the accident. All three have been referred to King George’s Medical University in Lucknow for treatment.
