Earlier on May 16, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said while his government is against encroachment, it would not tolerate the use of the bulldozers by the BJP-led MCD in Delhi, stating that it would leave a large chunk of people "homeless".
Delhi government on Thursday imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakhs on North Delhi Municipal Corporation in connection with Bhalswa landfill fire.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai stated, “Directions have been issued to take strict action against employees and officers who were on-duty at the time of the fire.”
The Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was introduced by Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in the House. The Bill seeks to further amend the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957.
