The mystery surrounding the death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg took a new turn on Monday as his co-singer Satabdi Borah and two Assamese expatriates from Singapore appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Guwahati to record their statements.
After giving her statement, Satabdi spoke briefly to the media and expressed hope that justice would be served.

“The people of Assam are very anxious to know what happened. I have full faith in the system that everything will be done properly and Zubeen Da will get justice. If anyone is guilty, they should be punished,” she said.
Zubeen Garg died in Singapore on September 19, reportedly while swimming, just a day before he was scheduled to perform at the Northeast India Festival. His sudden death shocked fans across the region.
However, the case took a serious turn after Zubeen’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami claimed that the singer was poisoned in Singapore. Following this, the Assam Police formed a joint SIT and CID team to investigate all possible angles.
So far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the case. Those in custody include event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma, bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, co-singer Amritprava Mahanta, and Zubeen’s cousin Sandipan Garg, an APS officer who has since been suspended.
Two of Zubeen’s personal security officers Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya have also been taken into custody.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that investigators are closing in on the truth. Speaking to reporters, he revealed that the viscera report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Delhi has given the CID a “definite angle” to the case.
“The CID has got a definite angle into the case. The entire chronology of Zubeen Garg’s death will be presented before the court,” the Chief Minister stated.
The investigation team also questioned Rupkamal Kalita. He is an Assamese expatriate based in Singapore, who reportedly had close contact with Zubeen during his last days. He recorded his statement with the SIT earlier.
