Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam was in the thick of controversy when he voiced his opinion about Azaan last year. Sonu Nigam raised objection against Azaan in one of his tweets, calling it ‘forced religiousness’. This action led the people to slam him on the social media and religious groups.

In an event, the singer said, “The issue of loudspeaker was in my office. But when I raised my voice against it, they fit one near my house also as a way to protest. It’s the right of every citizen to raise their voice against anything wrong and not tolerate it.”

Thereafter, Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi of the West Bengal Minority Council issued a fatwa against the Sonu Nigam and claimed that whoever gets the singer bald will receive a reward of Rs 10 lakh.

Now, it seems the singer’s life is in danger as fundamentalist groups are planning his assassination as per reports.  Maharashtra’s Intelligence Department has warned the Mumbai Police about the situation. According to Times Now, Sonu Nigam could be attacked at any event or other public places. The Mumbai Police have tightened the security around the singer and his safety would be their priority.

Earlier, Sonu Nigam also spoke about the law on playing National Anthem in cinema halls and restaurants. He said, “People should respect the National Anthem of every country; we all should respect our National Anthem. If the National Anthem of Pakistan is played and all Pakistanis stand for its honour, then I will stand in honour of Pakistan and its people.”

Such incidents make us question the freedom of speech and expression of the citizen of India. However, Sonu Nigam has not opened up about the threats yet.
