Sab TV co-founder Gautam Adhikari passes away at 67

Television Producer Gautam Adhikari passed away in the wee hours of Friday (October 27) at his residence. His funeral will be held at 11:00 am in Vile Parle suburban area of Mumbai.

He is survived by his wife Ranjana, and two children – a son and a daughter.

Gautam was considered as one of the pioneers of the Marathi TV industry.

Also a writer by profession, Gautam along with his brother Markand Adhikari had introduced the family based channel SAB (Shri Adhikari Brothers) TV. The channel has given some of the most popular family shows to the viewers.

Gautam had directed several Marathi TV shows, and set a record of highest number of hit TV shows. His record was also mentioned in Limca Book of world records.

Adhikari Brothers was the first publicly listed Television production company in India, after it got listed on the BSE in 1995.

The company was started by two brothers Gautam and Markand Adhikari as small business and it flourished in the later years. The production house won several awards for its contribution in Television. They introduced standup comedy on small screen with the show Made in India, which was aired on DD1 in 1998.

The production house also offered the first thriller and music based programmes on TV. The most popular TV shows directed by him are Commandar, Marshall, Silsila and Hello Inspector.

Gautam Adhikari, who was a diploma holder in commercial art, had directed several films and serials.
