The Swara Samrat Festival dedicated to the legends of performing arts and music completes a decade this year and will be held in four metro cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai.

 After a trailblazer event in Delhi, the Festival is all set to kick start in Kolkata from December 15 and will run till December 18 at Nazrul Manch. In its 10th year, Swara Samrat festival is celebrating the birth centenary of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. The festival will host an array of artists and the list includes Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and other eminent global icons of performing arts. 

Speaking about the festival percussionist Bikram Ghosh shared, “Classical music is the source of all musical forms and it has a major contribution in taking Indian culture to international level. It has consistently maintained its standard through ages and it has made a swift revival. I believe classical music has a therapeutic value and it will never go in the side line. This festival is a platform to recognise the rich culture of classical music.”

Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty shared, “There is nothing much to tell here, this is all about feeling. You can understand from where the music of India originates and how it has evolved over time. It is not that we only learn the art, there lies an entire universe behind that. Music is nourished by four things, rendition, respect, trust and love. It is a spiritual realm beyond the ordinary observable world.”

Sarod maestro, Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumder, the organiser of Swara Samrat Festival said, “It is a very special occasion today, an initiative that we took completed a decade this year. Many artists have devoted a part of their life to music but I have never seen someone like Ustad Ali Akbar Khan who made music his life. I wanted to convey and carry forward the principles of his disciplines to the next generation of musicians.”
