The ‘Dangal’ connection

The production team brought in the same trainer who had coached Aamir Khan for the 2016 Bollywood film ‘Dangal’. That film also featured wrestling as its central sport and was one of the highest-grossing Indian films at the time of its release. The team also involved wrestlers from Telangana to add authenticity to the wrestling sequences.

Why extra care was taken

Director Buchi Babu Sana explained that cricket is a sport familiar to everyone, but the team took extra care with the wrestling portions. The production team also brought in real-life pahalwans from Telangana as part of the team. All artists on the project received special training. Ram Charan’s training was the most intensive among the cast.

Three phases of the character

The protagonist’s journey in ‘Peddi’ is split into three distinct phases. These phases were initially designed using AI before the actor brought them to life on screen. Director Buchi Babu Sana said that audiences will not see Ram Charan in the film but will only see the character Peddi.

Film made specifically for Ram Charan

Director Buchi Babu Sana confirmed that ‘Peddi’ was developed specifically for Ram Charan, who had always wanted to do a sports drama. The story was crafted with him in mind. Sana also clarified that the story he had planned for Jr. NTR was an entirely different project.

Cast and crew

The film stars Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, and Divyenndu. Cinematography is by R. Rathnavelu and music is composed by A.R. Rahman. The film is produced by Vriddhi Cinemas and IVY Entertainment, with a reported budget of Rs 300 crore.

Shiva Rajkumar plays a mentor-like figure in the film, while Jagapathi Babu’s character Appala Suri is described as one of the most powerful characters, second only to the protagonist.

Shoot wrapped in May 2026

Shooting for the film was wrapped by May 1, 2026. Cinematographer Rathnavelu was the first to announce the wrap on his social media handles. He wrote that working with Ram Charan had been a memorable journey. Besides the sports backdrop, the film carries a strong emotional story. There is a major 15-minute emotional block that was not revealed in the trailer.

Director’s confidence in the film

Director Buchi Babu Sana, after watching the final cut, expressed complete satisfaction and said he genuinely feels the team has made a very good film. He urged audiences to watch the film with their families.
