Ram Charan and the team of ‘Peddi’ held a promotional press event in Delhi on May 28, 2026. The Delhi event came after earlier promotional stops in Mumbai and Bangalore. The team had also held a successful event in Bhopal before reaching the national capital. At the Delhi press meet, Ram Charan spoke about the film’s themes and recalled a personal conversation he had with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Ram Charan met PM Modi last year in October.
What Modi asked
Ram Charan said at the event, “The last time I met our Honourable Prime Minister Modi ji in Delhi, he asked me what ‘Peddi’ was about. I told him it’s about an evolved India and empowering our villages.”
During their conversation, Modi had casually enquired about Charan’s upcoming projects and showed interest in knowing more about ‘Peddi’. Charan told him the film is about empowering villages, which is loosely based on the government’s Viksit Bharat campaign.
Modi’s story From West Bengal
After hearing about ‘Peddi’, Modi shared a story with Ram Charan. He spoke about a village in West Bengal where, decades ago, a footballer from that small village represented India. Today, over 85 people from that same village play football.
Ram Charan said this story from Modi stayed with him. He connected the account directly to the film’s focus on village empowerment through sport, drawing a parallel between the story Modi shared and what ‘Peddi’ attempts to show on screen.
When the two met
Ram Charan met PM Modi last year in October.
Sharing pictures from that meeting, the actor had posted: “Honoured to meet our prime minister Shri Narendra Modi ji on the success of the world’s first Archery Premier League, led by Anil Kamineni Garu.”
Ram Charan on South Indian Cinema
At the Delhi press meet, Ram Charan also spoke about the direction South Indian films are taking.
He said, “The films we are making in the South today are deeply rooted in our culture and soil. They are not city-based, but set in villages and towns. Our archery team in India has many tribal players because they naturally possess that talent. It’s beautiful when such talent from villages gets recognised.”
What ‘Peddi’ is about
Set against the backdrop of rural Andhra Pradesh in the 1980s, ‘Peddi’ revolves around a young man who unites his village through cricket and wrestling while standing up against a powerful rival force. Ram Charan described the film as a grand tale of a tribal villager who aspires to make an identity for himself and his community on a big stage.
Actor Boman Irani, also part of the press meet, said that every athlete would feel inspired after watching the film and expressed hope that ‘Peddi’ would spark a movement in Indian sports, helping hidden talents receive proper platforms, guidance, and coaching.
‘Peddi’ is written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana and stars Ram Charan alongside Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Divyendu Sharma, and Jagapathi Babu. The film is produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under Vriddhi Cinemas in association with Mythri Movie Makers, Sukumar Writings, and IVY Entertainment. Cinematography is by R. Rathnavelu and editing is by National Award-winning editor Navin Nooli.
Release date and pre-sales
‘Peddi’ is ready for a worldwide theatrical release on June 4, 2026, with premiere shows scheduled from the evening of June 3.
The film has shown strong overseas momentum, reportedly crossing $225,000 in North America premiere pre-sales alone.
After Delhi, the team is going to hold promotional events in Chennai, followed by a special event in Vizianagaram on June 1 and a grand press meet in Hyderabad on June 2 with the full cast.
