The birthday of Rajinikanth is not just a date on the calendar. It’s an annual emotion. And this year, as the superstar turns 75, fans across Tamil Nadu seem to have decided that “celebration” is simply not enough. It has to be historic.

From early morning gatherings to full-blown rituals usually reserved for deities, Rajinikanth’s followers transformed Friday into one giant fan-led festival.

Birthday that looks like a spiritual event

Let’s start with Madurai because something unbelievable happened there.

A die-hard fan named Karthik literally built a Rajini Temple inside his house. Yes, a temple. Complete with a 300-kg statue of the superstar, regular visitors, rituals, offerings. The whole package! The temple opened only a few months ago, and it has already become a local attraction.

So for Rajinikanth’s 75th birthday, Karthik didn’t settle for a simple cake or a few decorations. He organised a full religious-style ceremony a day earlier, to make sure the star’s “divine day” began with blessings.

There was cake-cutting, followed by abhishegam, ritual bathing of the idol with holy offerings. The family then performed special prayers, wishing their beloved Thalaiva good health and a long life.

Karthik explained it: “For us, Rajinikanth is not just a star. He is someone we have grown up admiring, trusting and following. This temple is our way of showing our love.”

“We want to celebrate his 100th birthday here”

Karthik seems to be planning decades ahead, literally.

He shared that he hopes to celebrate Rajinikanth’s 100th birthday in the same temple. And he isn’t joking. The man has decorated an entire room with 7,500 photographs of Rajinikanth. Yes, 7,500!

And that’s not all. He has birthday posters in 75 different languages, a cash garland brought all the way from Uttarakosamangai Temple, six types of abhishegams, custom cake printed with Rajini’s pictures.

This is not fan love. This is fan devotion.

“No matter how many births, we want to be born as Rajini fans”

Karthik also recalled Rajinikanth’s viral quote from IFFI 2025, where the superstar said that even if he were reborn a hundred times, he would still choose to be Rajinikanth the actor.

Karthik added with pride, “Just like he said he wants to be born as Rajinikanth again, we too want to be born as his fans again and again.”

Chennai turns into a sea of devotion

Meanwhile in Chennai, the energy was no less intense.

Crowds started gathering outside Rajinikanth’s house from early morning. Some brought huge garlands, others carried posters and portraits. Many looked like they were on a pilgrimage rather than a fan visit. That’s the power of Rajinikanth.

Everyone just wanted one thing: a glimpse of their Thalaiva on his milestone birthday.

The superstar effect

Rajinikanth has always had a different kind of fan base: emotional, loyal, and passionate to the core. But this year, the celebrations reached a whole new level. From temples to rituals to multilingual posters, fans proved once again why no one in Indian cinema commands such devotion.

This year, Thalaiva’s birthday wasn’t just celebrated, it was worshipped.
