Telugu superstar Nagarjuna has announced something very special for fans and cinema lovers. His landmark film ‘Siva’, which first came out in 1989, is returning to theatres in a grand way.
The announcement comes as a tribute to his father, Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR), on the occasion of his 101st birth anniversary.
The film, directed by Ram Gopal Varma, will release once again on November 14, 2025, but this time with a modern touch. It has been restored in 4K and will feature Dolby Atmos sound.

For Nagarjuna, this re-release is deeply emotional. Remembering his father’s vision, he shared, “My father always believed cinema had the power to live beyond generations. ‘Siva’ was one such film. Bringing it back to the big screen on November 14 is my way of honouring his dream of keeping stories alive for the next generation.”

He also made the announcement on social media, calling ‘Siva’ “the film that shook Indian cinema” and promised that it will once again “shake theatres” with its grand re-release.
Ram Gopal Varma, who made his directorial debut with ‘Siva’, expressed his excitement too. He said the upgraded version will allow today’s viewers to enjoy the film’s technical brilliance like never before.
“I can’t wait for people to watch the film and have an absolutely immersive experience,” Varma said in a statement.
When ‘Siva’ released in 1989, it broke many norms of Indian cinema with its raw storytelling, realistic action, and gripping student-versus-system narrative. The movie revolved around college students fighting against crime and corruption.
The film featured Nagarjuna in the lead role, along with Amala and Raghuvaran. The music was composed by the legendary Ilaiyaraaja. The film’s massive success led to a Hindi remake in 1990 titled ‘Shiva’, which also became a cult classic.
