Malayalam cinema superstar Mohanlal has started working on the highly anticipated third chapter of the blockbuster ‘Drishyam’ series, i.e. ‘Drishyam 3’.

The news comes at a moment of celebration, as the actor also prepares to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest cinematic honour. This recognises his extraordinary contribution to films over a career spanning more than four decades.

The shooting of ‘Drishyam 3’ officially began with a traditional puja ceremony on Monday at a law college near Kochi. Fans and media gathered to witness the launch, which set the perfect tone for the next adventure of Georgekutty. This character has made Mohanlal a household name across the country.

Immediately after the ceremony, Mohanlal flew to New Delhi to accept the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award from the President of India on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters at the launch, director Jeethu Joseph shared a glimpse of what audiences can expect from the new film.

“The story picks up four and a half years after the events of the last film,” Joseph explained. “It explores what happens next in Georgekutty’s life. Fans can expect a continuation that stays true to the suspense and emotions they loved in the first two films.”

Producer Antony Perumbavoor, who has worked closely with Mohanlal on numerous projects including the first two ‘Drishyam’ films, said the decision to make a third part came after careful consideration.

“The overwhelming love for the first two films made us realise that Georgekutty’s story wasn’t finished yet,” he said. “After long discussions with Jeethu, we decided to bring the next chapter to life.”

The ‘Drishyam’ franchise has long been celebrated for its tight storytelling, unexpected twists, and Mohanlal’s masterful performance. The original film, released in 2013, set new standards in Malayalam cinema. The sequel in 2021 broke records.

The film is ready for a March 2026 release.
