Kamal Haasan reacts to Karur tragedy as 38 die in Vijay’s rally stampede

A tragic incident shook Tamil Nadu on Saturday when a massive crowd at TVK chief and actor Vijay’s rally in Karur turned into chaos, leading to a deadly stampede. At least 38 people lost their lives, and more than 50 others were left injured in the shocking accident.

Actor and politician Kamal Haasan expressed deep grief over the incident. Taking to X, he wrote that his heart trembled after hearing the news. He said the loss of innocent lives had left him speechless and extended his heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families.

Haasan also urged the Tamil Nadu government to ensure that the injured were given the best treatment and that proper relief reached the affected families.

The event, which was expected to be a show of strength for Vijay’s political journey, turned tragic when the crowd reportedly became uncontrollable.

Sources said the venue was heavily overcrowded, leading to panic and people collapsing in the congestion. Many fainted and had to be rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent care.

Officials confirmed that 38 people had died so far. 58 others were admitted to hospitals in both private and government facilities.

Tamil Nadu ADGP (Law and Order) Davidson Devasirvatham also said the number of deaths could rise. He rushed to Karur to personally inspect the site.

Responding swiftly, Chief Minister MK Stalin held an emergency meeting with top officials in Chennai. He directed immediate relief measures and assured that the injured would receive full medical support.

In a message on X, Stalin said he had contacted district authorities and health officials to make sure treatment was provided without delay. He also ordered private hospitals not to collect any charges from the victims.

DMK leader and former state minister Senthil Balaji visited the Government Medical College and Hospital in Karur on Stalin’s instructions. Speaking to reporters, he confirmed that extra doctors were being called in to handle the crisis. He added that 46 people were receiving treatment in private hospitals and 12 in the government hospital.

Balaji also confirmed that Stalin himself would be visiting Karur on Sunday to meet the injured and the families of those who died.
