Superstar Rajinikanth, who is all ready to return to the big screen with his much-talked-about film ‘Coolie’, has been quietly working on something very personal: his autobiography.

In a recent interview, the film’s director Lokesh Kanagaraj revealed that Rajinikanth has been writing his life story during the film’s last two shooting schedules.

Speaking in a video interview, Lokesh shared, “During the last two schedules of ‘Coolie’, Rajinikanth sir was writing his autobiography every single day.”

The director said he would regularly check in on the superstar’s progress, asking him, “Which chapter are you working on today?”

Rajinikanth would respond by sharing what phase of life he was covering, like something from his 42nd year or another important moment.

Lokesh added that Rajinikanth even shared stories with him that he hadn’t shared with anyone else. “It’s something I’ll always carry in my heart. Listening to his journey made me realise how much he’s been through and how he overcame it all. That’s what connects everyone in our state to him,” the director said.

While the news of Rajinikanth’s autobiography has thrilled his fans, the film ‘Coolie’ is also creating massive buzz worldwide.

‘Coolie’, which features Rajinikanth in the lead role, has become the highest overseas procurement ever for a Tamil film, industry sources say. Backed by Hamsini Entertainment, a major international distributor, the film is likely to release in more than 100 countries when it hits theatres on August 14, 2025.

The film’s cast reads like a dream: apart from Rajinikanth, ‘Coolie’ stars Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan.

Music is by Anirudh Ravichander, who teams up with Lokesh Kanagaraj for the fourth time. Girish Gangadharan is handling the cinematography, while Philomin Raj is in charge of editing.

One of the most exciting parts of the film is the return of Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj on screen together after nearly four decades. The last time they worked together was in the 1986 blockbuster ‘Mr. Bharath’, where Sathyaraj played Rajinikanth’s father.

Interestingly, Sathyaraj had earlier declined offers to act in Rajinikanth’s other hit films like ‘Sivaji’ and ‘Enthiran’.
