Fans of Dhanush have a new reason to celebrate as the trailer for his upcoming film ‘Idli Kadai’ has finally dropped.
The short, two-minute glimpse promises a mix of emotion, drama, and family values. This gives viewers a peek into what Dhanush’s fourth directorial venture has in store.
The film tells the story of Murugan, played by Dhanush, a young man with big dreams in hotel management. But chasing his ambitions creates tension with his father, who runs a small idli shop cherished by the local community.

A twist of betrayal forces Murugan to return home, where he must fight to protect his family’s legacy and the humble eatery that has been their pride for years.
The ‘Idli Kadai’ trailer begins with a simple yet telling scene: Murugan asks his father to buy an idli grinder to make the work easier. His father refuses, holding on to tradition, insisting that the taste of the idlis would change.

This clash between old customs and modern ideas forms the heart of the story, promising both heartfelt moments and relatable family drama.
‘Idli Kadai’ sees Dhanush taking the director’s chair while also playing the lead. Nithya Menen joins him once again after their hit collaboration in ‘Thiruchitrambalam’ (2022). The film also features Shalini Pandey, who gained fame with ‘Maharaj’.
The movie is going to hit theatres on October 1.
Dhanush has been keeping busy this year. He was last seen in ‘Kuberaa’, co-starring Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, and Jim Sarbh. Directed by National Award-winner Sekhar Kammula, the socio-drama explored greed, ambition, and redemption through the story of a beggar’s journey.
Beyond ‘Idli Kadai’, Dhanush will be seen in ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ alongside Kriti Sanon. Directed by Aanand L. Rai, this film has been described as a spiritual successor to ‘Raanjhanaa’. Production wrapped in July, and the movie is slated for a November 28, 2025, release.
