Two unusual incidents involving alleged drunk driving were reported in Telangana on Friday. In one case, a speeding car crashed into the Hyderabad home of Tollywood actor Dharma. In another, an intoxicated man allegedly stole a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus and drove it for more than 20 kilometres before crashing it.
Speeding car crashes into actor’s residence
A car crashed into the residence of Tollywood actor Dharma in Film Nagar, a residential area in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills, during the early hours of Friday.
According to police, the accident happened shortly after midnight when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to over-speeding. The car, allegedly driven by intoxicated youths, smashed through the entrance gate and entered the actor’s property before finally coming to a stop.
The strong impact caused a section of the compound wall to collapse. The vehicle also suffered heavy damage in the crash.
Family wakes up to loud noise
The loud sound of the collision woke up Dharma and his family members, who immediately came outside to see what had happened. They later informed the police and lodged complaint.
Police officers reached the spot soon after receiving the information. The youth who was allegedly driving the vehicle was detained. Initial findings suggest that he was under the influence of alcohol.
Fortunately, no one inside the house was injured.
Police begin investigation
Jubilee Hills Police have registered case and started investigation to determine the exact circumstances behind the crash. Officials are examining the incident, including driver’s alleged intoxication and the role of over-speeding in the accident.
Drunk man allegedly steals RTC bus
In a separate incident that surprised authorities, a man allegedly stole a hired TGSRTC bus from the Jangaon bus stand while under the influence of alcohol.
The accused, identified as Venkanna, is a tractor driver from Palakurthi. According to police, he wanted to travel to Tirupati. He first visited a nearby railway station twice but found that no trains were available.
He then went to the Jangaon bus stand, where he noticed an empty RTC-hired bus parked on the premises.
Bus driven for 21 kilometres before crash
Police said Venkanna entered the parked bus and managed to start it using the vehicle’s toolkit. He then drove the empty bus along the Suryapet route for nearly 21 kilometres.
The journey ended near the Singarajupally toll gate, where the bus struck a cement block and came to a sudden halt.
The incident drew attention when Venkanna reportedly tried to reverse the bus but repeatedly hit the divider. His unusual driving raised suspicion among toll plaza staff, who quickly informed the police.
Officers reached the location and detained him. Police said he was under the influence of alcohol when he was arrested.
