In a major legal win for South Indian cinema star Chiranjeevi Konidela a Hyderabad court has stepped in to protect his identity and reputation from any sort of misuse.
The City Civil Court of Hyderabad has issued an ad-interim injunction. This aims to prevent anyone from commercially or personally using Chiranjeevi’s name, image, voice or likeness without his explicit consent.
The order passed on September 26, 2025 by the Chief Judge of the City Civil Court in I.A. No. 6275 of 2025 in O.S. No. 441 of 2025 marks a very important step in safeguarding celebrity rights in the age of digital media and artificial intelligence.
As per the statement released by Chiranjeevi’s legal team, the actor approached the court after a few repeated instances of his image and name surfacing on merchandise, online platforms, and AI-generated content, and without permission. The court acknowledged that these actions were damaging Chiranjeevi’s reputation.

Chiranjeevi is a Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awardee. And, undoubtedly he is one of India’s most celebrated film personalities. The court recognized him as an icon whose public image carries immense value.
The order strictly prohibits individuals, companies or online creators from using Chiranjeevi’s name, nicknames (‘Megastar’, ‘Chiru’, ‘Annayya’), image, or voice for profit or publicity. This can be in any form whether through traditional media or digital platforms. The injunction extends to AI-generated videos, memes, and digital merchandise as well.
The court cautioned that such actions can cause “irreparable harm” to Chiranjeevi’s reputation and economic interests. Any violation of the order could result in serious civil and criminal consequences ranging from legal penalties and damages.
